
Congratulations to Steve Witts, Production Manager for the Contract Electronics Manufacturing Division at Sony UK TEC, who finished the 2013 Virgin London Marathon in 4 hours and 18 minutes. Steve who has been a key member of the team for 23 years beat his previous 2009 marathon time by 8 minutes.

On the 9th May Sony UK TEC took part in the TeenTech event held at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea. The TeenTech experience is a highly interactive event designed to inspire young teenagers and their teachers about the contemporary world of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Sony UK Technology Centre (UKTec) welcomed Lord Green, Minister for Trade and Investment today as part of the his visit to Wales to meet established inward investors to discuss plans for growth and how UK and Welsh Government can assist.

On the 30th April, the president of Sony Europe, Masaru Tamagawa visited the Sony UK Technology Centre. Tamagawa-san was welcomed by the leadership team who gave him a tour of the factory and the incubation centre

The first Raspberry Pi Camera modules are now being produced by the Contract Electronics Manufacturing Division at Sony UK Tec for the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Our Sony Charity Golf event is now in its sixth year, and this time we have joined forces with the Institute of Directors (IoD) for what we hope will be an even more successful day.

Staff at Sony UK Tec have organised many different events to raise money for our nominated charity NSPCC Cymru. On Thursday 28th March we handed over a cheque to NSPCC Cymru for £6,790

Employees at Sony UK Tec were keen to raise money for Comic Relief so they decided to arrange a two day event in the staff canteen.

Sony UK TEC was delighted to host a visit from Bridgend College on the 27th March 2013. Students and teachers were given a tour of the facilities giving everyone an excellent insight into the operations here at Sony UK Technology Centre. Luke Hemming, Lecturer at Bridgend College said the day was “A thoroughly enjoyable and comprehensive tour with a fantastic introductory presentation as well as a very interesting overview of the production and day to day activities of the factory. Highly recommended by staff and students, looking forward to visiting again”

On the 20th March 2013, Sony UK TEC attended the Engineering Education Scheme Wales at the Celtic Manor. The Sony exhibition stands was a great attraction displaying products from our Education Media Solutions division along with products that we manufacture in Wales such as Sony Professional Broadcast equipment and the famous Raspberry PI manufactured by our Contract Electronics Manufacturing Division.

Business and IT students from Maesteg Comprehensive School spent the morning at Sony UK Technology Centre, where they were taken on a tour of the facilities. The morning started with a short overview of the history of Sony and its operations in Pencoed, before embarking on a tour of the site.

Sony UK TEC are delighted that Warren James has made the shortlist for the category Young Engineer of the Year for the ESTnet Awards. The ESTnet Awards are designed to recognise companies and individuals working within the electronic and software technologies industry in Wales. The awards will showcase the very best Welsh talent and companies operating at the top of their markets, driving innovation and putting Wales on the world stage.

We recently played host to Radio Wales as the Science Cafe was broadcast from Sony UK TEC. The half an hour broadcast includes Gareth Jones, Head of New Business take Radio Wales on a tour of the Raspberry Pi manufacturing facilities

Following the runaway success of the Raspberry Pi Model B on behalf of Premier Farnell. The Raspberry Pi Foundation decided to auction off for charity the first 20 prototypes of the Model A for their various partner charities. Sony UK Tec are proud to be a part of this charity auction which raised $483.75 for its current adopted charity the NSPCC Cymru.

Sony UK TEC will add a further two new models to the current 84 Broadcast and Professional Portfolio of products currently manufactured here in Pencoed. The PMW-200 XDCAM Camcorder equipped with 3 x 1/2 “ Full HD CMOS sensors, will start being manufacture at Sony UK TEC in March 2013 and will be available in the market from May 2013.

On Tuesday 15th January, SONY Pencoed opened its doors to year 5 pupils of Pencoed Primary School, as part of its initiative with the Ospreys Schools Programme designed to promote Oracy, Literacy and Numeracy.
