Pencoed at the top for industry’s Oscars

12th Dec 2012

Sony UK Tec in Pencoed has been highly commended in a competition to find the UK’s top manufacturing site. Now in their 21st year, the Best Factory Awards (BFA) are industry’s Oscars, celebrating factories that achieve outstanding manufacturing excellence. The awards are run by Cranfield School of Management in partnership with Works Management magazine. Following a tough vetting process and a detailed site audit, UK Tec beat stiff competition to reach the final shortlist. The results were announced at London’s Park Lane Hotel, and UK Tec was highly commended in three categories – Best Electronics & Electrical Plant, Health & Safety, and Energy & Environment. Dr Marek Szwejczewski, Director of the BFA, said:“ All the finalists are beacons of excellence, driven by the desire to improve and excel. Our awards aim to recognise their achievements and highlight systems and processes that others can learn from. The best factories in Britain are focused on delivering value to their customers, ensuring their employees are engaged and well trained, and are continually investing in their production facilities.” Steve Dalton OBE, Managing Director of UK Tec, commented: “After such a rigorous judging process, it is a privilege for our site to reach the finals and to be highly commended by the BFA. It’s great to be recognised by those who are helping to inspire, create and integrate new management thinking within the manufacturing industry.”
