Business Overview:

Sony UK Technology Centre is a division of Sony Europe Limited. We are the only manufacturing centre for Sony in Europe and provide contracting manufacturing solutions for other business. Further, we are the home of a Sony customer service center and a Business Incubation Centre. The heart of today’s operation at Pencoed is centered on the manufacture of high technology Broadcast and Professional Cameras and Systems for worldwide markets including the latest industry leading 4K technology. Cameras and equipment produced in Pencoed can be found in sports stadiums, studios and outside broadcast units around the world.

Role Overview:

Working within a team working on cutting edge engineering automation solutions, the Automation Engineer will utilize the latest technologies to develop automated manufacturing and test facilities.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop bespoke Automation solutions.
  • Research latest technologies and ideas and develop them for use in the production environment.
  • Liaising with internal and external companies to manufacture designs.
  • Building, test and debugging equipment designs and control circuits.
  • Adhering to company procedures and producing the necessary documentation to ensure this is achieved.
  • Produce documentation in accordance with required safety standards.
  • Work within a cross discipline engineering team, communicate best practices, ideas and project updates to the team, team leader and senior management.

Person Qualities:

The successful candidate will have the ability to Communicate Ideas clearly to others, be well organized, self-motivated, have strong sense of accountability and be able to work well under pressure. They will have an innovative approach to design with good analytical abilities and leadership skills.

Essential criteria:

  • Experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Electrical/ Electronic circuits.
  • Experience of Project Management / Schedule Setting.
  • Excellent Understanding of Manufacturing Equipment Safety Requirement.

Desirable criteria:

  • Knowledge in Robotics.
  • Knowledge of PLC Programming.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD Design, preferably SolidWorks/ AutoCAD Inventor.
  • Knowledge of PUWER / COSHH regs.
