Internal movement – the ultimate career development tool for graduates

Our eighteen-month programme gives graduates the opportunity to learn and develop skills across multiple departments here at Sony UK TEC, including:

  • Business Support: Finance & Accounts, Marketing & Communications, Human Resources, Compliance & Auditing, Supply Chain.

By rotating around the various departments, graduates have multiple learning opportunities, which hugely benefit their CV and career, as they learn about the rapidly changing world around them.

Internal movement is something we champion here at Sony UK TEC as it is a hugely beneficial tool for productivity, development and retention.

Within Sony UK TEC, we’ve got some great examples of team players who have benefited from internal movements. Charlotte Davies, our Graduate Production Manager, was originally involved in the management of our Collaborative Manufacturing business, ensuring the delivery of high-volume products. In the two years since starting her graduate career, she has now moved on to focusing on our Sony Imaging Products & Solutions business, producing professional broadcasting products.

Stacey McKenzie, our HR Assistant, was initially based in Production but progressed and moved to our Support office. Samantha commented: “She is fantastic in the HR team and having built strong relationships whilst working in Production, she now acts as a key point of contact and is approached regularly by team players from the Production team for support.”

Another great example is Cecilia Fritz, who initially started off as an HR Administrator and has since moved and progressed into a Senior Management role, where she is on the Executive Board. 

On her promotions, she said: “The promotion has given me an opportunity to broaden my horizons and focus more on strategic projects. It also means I am less involved in day to day running of each area, and instead I am able to look at what we need to achieve in the years to come. We all know that technology is rapidly changing but so are people and their expectations. If we don’t look ahead, we won’t be prepared for what is to come. As our people are our biggest asset, my key purpose is to make sure this is always high on the agenda.”
