Regional sponsor of Make UK Manufacturing Awards, Sony UK Technology Centre celebrate shortlist success

With COVID-19 restrictions continuing to ease in Wales following the pandemic, Sony UK Technology Centre (UK TEC) will sponsor this years’ in-person Make UK Manufacturing Awards aimed at highlighting the resilience, determination, and ingenuity of the UK’s manufacturing community.

The awards and regional dinner, which are due to take place on 2nd November 2021 at Celtic Manor Hotel will see Sony not only attending as a sponsor alongside Nineteen Group but will also showcase its Apprentices who have been shortlisted within several award categories.

This year, Andrew Naisbitt has been recognised within the Final Year category, Scott Roberts as a Rising Star and Thomas Davies has been successful in the Endeavor Award category.

UK TEC has also been shortlisted for Developing Future Talent, Innovation and Business Growth and Strategy awards.

The regional dinner itself will provide an opportunity to network with peers, create new business connections during a three-course meal, and hear from the events’ inspiring after-dinner speaker.

The regional results of the Make UK Manufacturing Awards 2021 will also be announced on the evening, honouring, and recognising the region’s incredible makers, innovators, and leaders within the sector.

Speaking on behalf of Sony and reflecting on his achievements, Scott Roberts, finalist for the Rising Star award says, “It is an amazing and overwhelming feeling to have been shortlisted for a Make UK Manufacturing Award. There are so many young and bright candidates competing for these awards and so to have been shortlisted feels like an enormous achievement.”

“Applying for an apprenticeship position with Sony UK TEC was the best career decision I’ve ever made. Continuous hard work and endless support from Managers and the Sony Pencoed Training Academy has opened so many opportunities for me.”

“Ever since starting my apprenticeship, Sony has funded and supported me through higher education and I feel extremely lucky to have been presented with every opportunity to learn, enhance and develop whilst working towards my career as a multiskilled engineer.”

Speaking on the decision to support the Make UK Awards and Sony UK’s shortlist achievements, Professional Services Director Gerald Kelly said: “We are delighted to be the regional sponsor for these prestigious industry awards, particularly in light of our company-wide and apprentices’ success in being shortlisted.”

“At Sony UK TEC, we strive to work with the next generation of innovators. Our apprentices drive creativity, originality and growth across the company so it is only right they get the recognition they deserve.”

“It is a pleasure for us to play a role in this year’s awards and help to highlight the invaluable work of Wales’ industry-leading manufacturing sector.”
