Role Overview:
Working as an Automation Engineer within the Engineering Department at Sony UK Technology Centre Limited (UKTec), the successful candidate will identify and assess viable process automation opportunities, and propose investments that deliver improvements in quality, technology, or cost-effectiveness.
The role involves designing and developing automation equipment, as well as managing internal and/or subcontracted resources to deliver these solutions.
Upon completion, the candidate will document the automated solution, conduct an evaluation, and facilitate a structured handover to the Production Engineering Team, which will then assume operational responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analytical Appraisal (SA, DA & PPA)
- Project Management
- Design of process flows
- Contributing to Product design for manufacture (DFM)
- 3D CAD system design (using SolidWorks or Inventor)
- Evaluating Mechanical/Electrical Solution options
- Robotics and Automation Development
- Technical documentation creation
- Appreciation of PLC program design
- Appreciation of software & databases
Essential Criteria:
- A HNC/HND (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Ability to work as part of a team and have strong communication skills.
- Self-motivated and strong sense of responsibility.
- Positive attitude towards working towards and meeting deadlines.
- Available to travel internationally for periods generally between 1 to 2 weeks.
- Willingness to develop new skills and demonstrate flexibility.
Desirable Criteria:
- Detailed knowledge in Mechanical Design and 3D CAD Systems.
- An understanding of electronics or electrical control systems.
- An understanding of PLC programming and software.
