Back in October 2022, Sony UK Technology Centre (UK TEC) in Pencoed, South Wales, held their annual team building day at the Cardiff City Stadium… with a sustainable twist!
Employees decided to focus the day on the key issue of sustainability, whilst making stronger connections with their team members.
Phil Williams, Sustainability Specialist, kicked off the day with a keynote speech on the importance of teamwork and an overview of the four pillars of sustainability that the Sony Group focuses on.
All activities were designed with Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) in mind to give all employees, of which there are over 550, the opportunity to fully participate.
The teams first had to answer biodiversity, environment, and Sony–related questions, as well as work together to re-create and capture fun moments to win building materials. The ultimate aim was for each team to build three wooden units: a bird box, a bat house, and a bug hotel.
Together, the UK TEC team built a grand total of 165 wooden units which will become part of the site’s environmental centre and will be donated to local schools and various Sony sites around the world.
These donations will help each benefitting organisation to protect and promote biodiversity in their areas and educate others on the importance of biodiversity and sustainability.
